Temperatures

Hi all,
does anyone know if the average temperatures are going to be any colder than a typical winter in the alps, iv heard that temperatures of -40 degrees are not uncommon. has anyone experienced theese extrem temperatures before and how did you manage with layers and clothing etc.?

I had -10 in Whistler last year. Wore a hat under my helmet, but i got good quality jacket and trousers, so all i needed was one layer of thermals underneath. Even then i got super hot on long runs...
